Entry from: Ikeda, Japan Entry Title: "No work...might as well go to Ikeda" Entry: "Today was a national holiday of some sort. I don't ask questions. I just enjoy the day off work. I went down to Ikeda and met up with some friends. We first went to a little local wool shop. They spin their own wool there and sell it for an arm and a leg. The owners of the shop are about 70 years old I think. I know this because they actually pulled a table out, poured us some tea, brought us some snacks, and we chatted for an hour and a half. It was really nice actually. Luckily, one of my friends has pretty good Japanese so he could get the gist of most things that were said. We talked about Japan, teaching, and our home countries. It was just a nice small town gesture that I think you would be hard to come by in a big city. We went for a hike up to this observatory (look out) on the top of a really big hill. We decided to take the short cut. Straight up the hill. It was really steep and covered in a variety of animal feces. What can you do though eh? We had gone to far, there was no turning back. At the observatory we could see all of the different mountain ranges around us. It was a beautiful clear day so we could even see the white tips of the mountain peaks.
